A pair of one run wins for Softball

The Lady Knights posted a pair of one run wins on Saturday at the National Training Center Games in Clermont, Florida. Queens College began the day with a 2-1 victory over Nyack College and finished with a 3-2 decision over Franklin Pierce in nine innings.

Laura Guzman's RBI ground out scored Bryttne Nelson to give QC a 1-0 lead over Nyack in the second inning of their first game. Nyack pushed across a run against Nelson in the bottom of the sixth to knot the game but the Lady Knights plated the game winning run in the seventh without the benefit of a hit. Katie Miracco walked and was sacrificed to second by Adriana Faria. Miracco moved to third on a wild pitch after which Destiny Ocasio was walked. Ocasio then stole second and Miracco scampered home on the play with the deciding run.

Nelson picked up the win for QC with a complete game, 15 strike out  three hitter. She also threw three ininngs of one hit ball later in the day to pick up the win in relief in the Lady Knights' 3-2 win over Franklin Pierce.

Sara Koumou got Queens College on the board in the first with an RBI single that scored Christy Sanders. Franklin Pierce answered with two in the fourth to take a one run lead which they made stand up until the seventh when Danielle DiGioia smacked a two out double that plated the game tying run in the person of Samantha Stallone. QC then scored the game winner in the top of the ninth on an RBI sinlge to left off of the bat of Ocasio.
