Sanders starts Softball season with a shutout

Christy Sanders pitched a four hit shutout to enable the Lady Knights to open their 2009 slate with a 3-0 win over Southern Connecticut State on Friday morning in Clermont, Florida. QC lost to Bentley, 7-1, later the same day.

The Lady Knights got on the board in the top of the second when Megan White doubled in Christina Colon with the season's first run. The score remained that way way until the sixth when QC loaded the bases with one out. Bryttne Nelson, who started the rally by singling to center, scored on a fielder's choice to make it a 2-0 game. White then followed with a sacrifice fly to right to score Sara Koumou to give Sanders and the Lady Knights a three run cushion.

White finished the opener with a double and two RBI's while Nelson was two for four with a triple. Sanders struck out six and walked one in going the distance for the Lady Knights.

In game two of the day Bentley pushed across three in the bottom of the first on their way to a 7-1 win. Colon singled and scored on a double by White in the sixth for the Lady Knights' lone tally of the game.
