Etienne and Britton Earn Second-Place Showings for Track and Field at Queensborough Relays

BAYSIDE, N.Y. (Apr. 14, 2018) - Clivensky Etienne was second in the men's 10,000-meter run and Terrilyn Britton took a runner-up finish in the women's 100-meter dash as the Queens College track and field teams competed on Saturday (Apr. 14) at the Queensborough Relays on the campus of Queensborough Community College. The Knights also dominated the field events that were contested Friday (Apr. 13) on the campus of Queens College.

Men's Results

Etienne posted a time of 35:40.71 in the long race as the junior led a majority of the laps until he was passed by Kingsborough's Dandre Mighty, who finished with a NJCAA qualifying time of 35:19.57. Jonathan Dinh had a fifth-place showing in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:01.93 as Keenan Gorski soared to a fourth-place finish in the men's high jump (1.62m). In the men's javelin throw, John Hines finished in fourth place with a best toss of 35.89 meters and Solomon Shapiro claimed an eighth-place finish (34.59m). In throws contested on Friday afternoon at Queens College, Andrew Sauplaugh won both the discus (34.70m) and hammer throw (46.85m) as Josh Emrani took third in the latter event (31.25m).

Women's Results

The Knights littered the top-four and top-five in the Friday throw portion of the relays on the women's side. Erin Leonard was first in the discus and hammer throws, collecting tosses of 30.95m in the discus and 40.67m in the hammer respectively. In discus, Kennedy Williams finished second (29.40m) with Renee Lustin taking third (24.15m) and Olivia Smithwick finishing in fourth with a toss of 23.90 meters. Smithwick was runner-up in the hammer throw with a toss of 36.35 meters; following her in third was Lustin (35.70m) with Williams claiming fourth (33.90m) and Nicole Weinsheimer taking fifth with a toss of 33.28 meters.

Britton ran a second-place time of 12.31 seconds in the 100-meter dash on Saturday, just behind Kingsborough's Shantal Rouse (12.29s). Kerry Ghanie ran a top-half time of 14.24 seconds as well for the Knights. In longer races, Diana Cruz took a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.89 while the Knights had three finishers in the top-ten of the 1500-meter race. Nakeema Neunie led the way with a third-place time of 5:17.16, Simone Gmuca's time of 5:32.98 was good for fifth place and Crystal Jia claimed a tenth-place finish with a time of 5:42.38. Britton, Cruz, Neunie and Ghanie combined for a victorious 4x100-meter relay with a time of 51.37 seconds besting all comers in the race; meanwhile, the 4x400-meter relay squad of Britton, Cruz, Neunie and Jia also won their event in a time of 4:16.85. 

The Knights will now take to the East Coast Conference Championship meet on Saturday (Apr. 21) as the Knights compete against the rest of the league in Amherst, N.Y.
