Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams Cop USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Honors

NEW ORLEANS - The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently announced its 2011 cross country All-Academic Team recipients, and head coach Greg Welch's Queens College Knights received team accolades on both the men's and women's sides.

Additionally, senior women's standout Indira Avila (Hicksville, N.Y.) and junior men's stalwart Max Gazzara (Flushing, N.Y.) were individual All-Academic honorees, for their performance at the regional level as well as in the classroom.

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have tallied a team score at the NCAA Regional Championships. Individually speaking, to qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team in Division II, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or greater through the most-recent semester, completed at least 12 credit hours in the semester of cross country competition, and placed in the top 50 percent at the most recent NCAA National Championships or in the top 30 percent at the NCAA Regional Championships.
