Men's Tennis Learns Opponent Identity for NCAA Division II Round of 16 on May 9

FLUSHING, N.Y. (May 2, 2018) - In order for the Queens College men's tennis team to advance into the national quarterfinals of the 2018 NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament, the Knights must take down the team that eliminated them in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

Queens will face the Panthers of Drury University on May 9 at 3 p.m. Eastern Standard Time exactly one year to the day that Drury eliminated the Knights from the championships in Altamonte Springs, Fla. Drury (20-4) won the NCAA Division II Midwest Region II championship by defeating Grand Valley State and Ferris State last week; the Panthers were the Great Lakes Valley Conference runners-up after losing to Indianapolis despite posting a perfect 6-0 record in conference play during the regular season.

The Knights (20-5) defeated NYIT by a 5-2 margin on Tuesday (May 1) to win the NCAA Division II East Region II crown and advance into the Round of 16. QC was defeated 5-2 by Drury last May before the Panthers dropped their next match in the quarterfinals to Barry. Cosme Jubera is the only returning Knight to have won a match in last year's Round of 16, as the now-junior teamed with Jui Mao to claim a victory in doubles over Drury in Florida.
