FLUSHING, N.Y. (Apr. 10, 2018) - The Queens College men's tennis team pitched a clean sweep in a 9-0 non-conference tune-up match with Post University on Tuesday (Apr. 10) at the QC Tennis Center.
Queens (15-4) won all three doubles contests against the Eagles (3-9) in convincing fashion, although the battle at the top doubles tandem proved to be a feisty contest as Gabriel Mendez and Lucas Martinez won an 8-6 duel over Nikola Crevlin and Ludvig Henrikson. Second pair Cosme Jubera and Jose Zurro won their match by an 8-3 margin as did No. 3 team Nick Volos and Hugo Andrade to give QC a 3-0 outright lead. Singles play was where the Knights continued to display brilliance and dominance as Mendez got things rolling with a 6-4, 7-5 win at the top flight over Crevlin.
Jubera won a 6-0, 6-0 thrashing at second-singles versus Jonathan Compres while Richard Sec needed a 10-3 third set win to triumph at third-singles over Ivan Rajevac after splitting the first two sets by scores of 6-4 and 3-6, respectively. Martinez defeated Samuel Urban by a 6-3, 6-4 score at No. 4 singles as Miguel Bendito dispatched of Peter Rossel in the fifth flight by dual 6-1 scores in each of the two sets. Stanislas Bedrune claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win at sixth-singles over Joe Alvord to cap the scoring.
The Knights head to Old Westbury on Friday (Apr. 13) for a 10 a.m. contest with NYIT in a battle for the ECC regular-season championship as both teams enter the match with 4-0 marks in the six-team league play with one contest to go.
