KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Mar. 12, 2018) - The Queens College men's tennis team continued its sensational start to the season by throttling the Vikings of Augustana (S.D.) on Monday (Mar. 12), winning an 8-1 match at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.

The Knights (10-0) were tested in doubles play by the Vikings (2-2) with the top doubles tandem of Gabriel Mendez and Roman Laga claiming an 8-6 win for QC over Charlie Adkins and Logan Barr. Queens won at No. 2 doubles with reigining ECC Player of the Week Cosme Jubera and Lucas Martinez striking for an 8-3 triumph versus Zachary Adkins and North Knewtson. Augustana claimed the victory in third-doubles with an 8-4 defeat of Camilo Arias and Jose Zurro; that was the only point for Augie in the whole match as the Knights ran over their opposition and won all six matches.

This, however, was not without its stern tests as well. Mendez needed three sets to dispatch of Charlie Adkins in the top singles flight but the senior from Mexico came out on top in a 7-5, 4-6, 10-5 slugfest. Jubera was a 6-3, 6-0 winner at second-singles versus Zachary Adkins while Laga claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win against Barr at No. 3 singles. Martinez and Richard Sec easily handled their opponents at fourth- and fifth-singles, respectively, by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores and Zurro was a 6-2, 6-2 victor at the sixth flight of singles versus Knewtson.

The Knights continue their play in the Sunshine State versus the Fire of Southeastern University at the USTA National Campus at 11:30.
