Jubera Named ECC Player of Week for Second Time; Laga and Mendez Make Honor Roll

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (Mar. 12, 2018) - Cosme Jubera gabbed his second ECC Men's Tennis Player of the Week Award on Monday (Mar. 12) and the Spaniard was not alone in receiving conference laurels as seniors Roman Laga and Gabriel Mendez took spaces on the conference's weekly honor roll.

Jubera was dominant for the Knights in a 2-0 week, winning both singles matches against Adelphi and Jefferson by a 6-3, 6-1 score. He teamed with Lucas Martinez at second doubles to an 8-2 victory over Adelphi as well. Jubera currently stands at 7-1 in singles play and 6-1 in doubles competition.

Laga, too, was a force for the Knights in doubles play, winning both of his tandems with Mendez by an 8-1 score. The senior from Germany was also dominant against Adelphi's Sabin Saveluc at second-singles, winning by a 6-3, 6-1 straight-set decision.

Mendez, meanwhile, ran his doubles record to a perfect 8-0 to start the year with 8-1 wins against Adelphi and Jefferson this week. The senior is now 5-0 when teaming with Laga at the top-doubles tandem so far this year. Mendez also notched a straight-sets singles win against Jefferson by a 6-3, 6-2 score.

Queens College is in Florida for a six-match stretch that will continue Tuesday (Mar. 13) against the Southeastern University Fire at 11:30 a.m.
