Men's Tennis Races Past Adelphi in 8-1 Victory; Eighth Straight Win for Knights

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Mar. 8, 2018) - All three doubles tandems scored 8-2 victories as the Queens College men's tennis team soared to an 8-1 win over Adelphi University on Thursday (Mar. 8) at the QC Tennis Center.

Queens (8-0) scored the early edge over Adelphi (1-4) as the Knights cruised to their respective wins in doubles play. Camilo Arias and Jose Zurro finished their match first in No. 3 doubles with Gabriel Mendez and Roman Laga closing out their opponents in first-doubles a few minutes later. Lucas Martinez and Cosme Jubera clinched an 8-2 win to put the Knights ahead 3-0 in the early going and set the tone for a dominant performance.

In singles action, the impressive play for QC continued with Jubera and Laga beating their opponents by identical 6-3, 6-1 scores at first and second singles. Zurro and Miguel Bendito won at fourth and sixth singles, respectively, with 6-1, 6-1 results favoring the Knights in each flight. Richard Sec cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at third singles to complete the Knights' tallies on the scoreboard.

Queens will conclude its long season-opening homestand on Friday (Mar. 9) with a 12 p.m. match-up against regional foe Jefferson University at the QC Tennis Center. The Knights will be heading down to Florida next week to play six matches in six days against strong out-of-region competition.
