FLUSHING, N.Y. (Mar. 2, 2018) - The Queens College men's tennis team swept the singles play to earn an 8-1 victory over ASA College on Friday (Mar. 2) at the QC Tennis Center.
From top-to-bottom, the Knights controlled the action in the singles flights and were hardly troubled against the junior college powerhouse from Manhattan. Gabriel Mendez was the last to finish as his match at first-singles proved to be an 8-3 pro-set win because QC had already clinched the win due to his teammates' success. Cosme Jubera was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at second-singles; Richard Sec claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot; Jose Zurro's 6-4, 6-2 win came in the fourth flight of singles play; Lucas Martinez coasted to a 6-4, 6-3 knockout at fifth-singles and Nick Volos cruised in a 6-1, 6-2 straight-sets triumph at No. 6.
The Knights were up 2-1 after doubles play as the top tandem of Jubera and Martinez roughed up ASA's No. 1 duo by an 8-1 margin. Sec teamed with Miguel Bendito in the third doubles match and the pair won by an 8-4 score-line.
Queens will be in action next on Thursday (Mar. 8) against local rival Adelphi at 12 p.m. at the QC Tennis Center.
