Men's Tennis Blanks Franklin Pierce, 9-0, To Earn Sixth Straight Win

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Feb. 23, 2018) - The Queens College men's tennis team powered its way to a sixth straight win of the spring campaign by shutting out Franklin Pierce on Friday (Feb. 23) in a 9-0 decision at the QC Tennis Center.

The Knights (6-0) made easy work of the Ravens (3-2) in doubles play as Cosme Jubera and Lucas Martinez powered their way to an 8-3 win at the top tandem to get things rolling. Richard Sec and Jose Zurro claimed a gritty 8-6 win at second-doubles as Nick Volos and Gabriel Mendez dismantled their opponents in an 8-1 throttling as QC took a 3-0 advantage.

In singles play, Sec put on a dominant show at the third flight with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Yuval Barak. Roman Laga (7-6, 7-6) and Mendez (6-2, 2-6, 10-8) had tougher paths to victory at second and first singles, respectively. Martinez, Camilo Arias and Miguel Bendito were also triumphant in their singles matches to give Queens the 9-0 victory.

The Knights continue the long homestand into March as Queens plays host to ASA College on Friday (Mar. 2) at 11 a.m.
