JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Feb. 4, 2018) - The Queens College men's tennis team began its 2018 spring season on Sunday (Feb. 4) with a 4-3 win over the Peacocks of Saint Peter's University in Jersey City.
The Knights (1-0) were perfect in doubles competition against Saint Peter's (1-4) winning all three tandems. The top duos of Gabriel Mendez/Roman Laga and Cosme Jubera/Lucas Martinez were each victorious by 6-3 counts over their opposition while No. 3 doubles tandem Stan Bedrune and Hugo Evangelista used an early 3-0 lead to propel themselves to a 6-4 victory. Jubera and Mendez claimed singles' victories as well as Richard Sec at the No. 5 flight for QC; Sec's win came in a 6-3, 6-2 straight-setter while Jubera and Mendez went the distance and won in three sets over their foes from Saint Peter's.
The Knights will open up the home campaign on Friday (Feb. 9) with an 11 a.m. match-up against Southern New Hampshire University in Flushing.
