Men's Tennis Sweeps Daemen, Improves to 4-0 in ECC

AMHERST, N.Y. – The Queens College men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 sweep of the Daemen College Wildcats on Friday, improving to 4-0 in the East Coast Conference (ECC). The Knights move to 11-5 overall with their third straight win, while Daemen drops to 6-17 (0-4 ECC).

The Knights took control immediately, sweeping doubles play with ease. The Knights then captured all six singles matches to complete the sweep.

Sharvill Nawghre and Roman Laga teamed up for an 8-4 win at top doubles, while Gabriel Mendez and Lucas Martinez made easy work at No. 2 with an 8-2 win. Federico Toscano and Richard Sec then gave Queens a 3-0 lead with an 8-4 win at third doubles.

Nawghre claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, while Mendez took a 6-2, 2-6, 11-9 win in the second spot. Martinez notched a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3, while Cosme Jubera rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. Laga earned a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 5, and Toscano took a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 to cap off the team win.

Queens, the top-ranked team in the NCAA East Regional Rankings and ranked 47th in the Oracle/ITA National Rankings, will look to finish the regular season perfect in ECC play at Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday, April 15, at 1 p.m.
