FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's tennis team improved to 5-0 at home on Saturday evening with a 7-2 win over Chestnut Hill College at the QC Tennis Center. It was the third straight win for the Knights, who move to 7-4 on the season.
Queens captured two of its three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead with wins at second and third doubles. The Knights then battled for five singles victories to earn the non-conference win.
Jui Mao and Cosme Jubera picked up an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles, while Gabriel Mendez and Lucas Martinez teamed up for an 8-3 win in the third position. The Griffins took first doubles in a tight 8-6 contest.
Chestnut Hill won at No. 1 singles, but Queens worked its way to victory in the other five flights. Sharvill Nawghre claimed a 7-5, 6-7 (6-7), 10-5 win at No. 2 singles in three sets. Mendez also fought for a three-set win in the third spot, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-6, while Richard Sec scored a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. Cosme Jubera tallied a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles, and Roman Laga won at No. 6 in a 6-2, 6-3 final.
Queens will take on East Coast Conference (ECC) rival NYIT next on Wednesday, April 5, at 2 p.m., looking to avenge last season's loss to the Bears in the ECC Championship.
