FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's tennis team began East Coast Conference (ECC) play on Friday, cruising to a 7-2 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College at the QC Tennis Center.
The Knights improve to 5-4 overall and 3-0 at home, while the Spartans fall to 6-5 on the season.
Queens began by taking two of the three doubles matches, coming at No. 1 and No. 3. Sharvill Nawghre and Roman Laga battled for an 8-5 win at top doubles, while Richard Sec and Camilo Arias collected an 8-2 victory in the third slot.
The Knights then took five singles matches, with the lone loss coming in three sets. Nawghre added a win at top singles as well, earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Gabriel Mendez picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win in the second spot, while Cosme Jubera notched a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 3 singles. Sec rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the fourth spot, and Miguel Bendito fought for a three-set 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 win at No. 6 singles.
Queens will continue its ECC schedule with another home match against the University of the District of Columbia at noon on Friday, March 31.
