Queens Suffers First Defeat to Florida Southern, 6-3

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Queens College men's tennis team suffered its first defeat of the season on Friday, 6-3, to Florida Southern College in the second match of the Knights' Florida trip, which features six total matches in five days.

Queens took a 2-1 lead after doubles, but Florida Southern controlled singles action by taking five of the six individual contests.

Roman Laga and Sharvill Nawghre got the Knights on the board first with an 8-4 win at top doubles. Newcomers Cosme Jubera and Jui Mao combined for Queens' second win, 8-6, at second doubles, while the Mocs took third doubles.

Jubera came away victorious at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 6-2, but the Mocs took the remaining singles matches. Two of the Knights' losses in singles action came in three sets.

Queens will travel to Rollins College for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday, March 11.
