Pellegrino Named to Capital One Academic All-District 1 First Team

Capital One announced its Men's Academic All-District At-Large teams Thursday afternoon, and Queens College sophomore men's tennis player, Andre Pellegrino (Sao Paolo, Brazil) has been tabbed on the All-District 1 First Team. He is now eligible for Capital One Academic All-America honors, which will be announced in two weeks.

The Capital One Academic All-District and All-America teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  The program has expanded for 2011-12, with separate Academic All-District and All-America teams selected in Divisions I, II and III, as well as the College division for NAIA, junior college and Canadian institutions.

The Capital One Academic All-America and All-District teams consist of student-athletes in the following men's sports: fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.

Pellegrino was named to the All-East Coast Conference first team this spring after helping the 25th-ranked Knights (20-4, marking second 20-win season in a row) to their third-straight conference title, as well as its fourth-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Championships' Round of 16. He was named Queens College's most improved male student-athlete at the institution's recent athletics banquet, and went 18-4 on the season in singles play at the No. 3 flight -- up three spots from his No. 6 singles slot as a rookie. Through two stellar seasons on head coach Craig Schwartz's Knights squad, Pellegrino owns a career record of 33-8 (.805) in singles play and 16-6 (.727) in doubles action.
