Swimming and Diving Dominant at USMMA Invitational

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Nov. 18, 2017) - Jordan Melidor-Fuxis was victorious in two events and Jennifer Arana claimed first place in one discipline to lead the QC Swimming and Diving teams Saturday (Nov. 18) at the USMMA Memorial Invitational in Kings Point, N.Y.

On the men's side, Melidor-Fuxis posted the fastest time in winning the 100-yard backstroke (55.06s) and the 100-yard butterfly (52.92s) and swept away a majority of the competition. The senior swimmer also nabbed a third-place finish in the 50-free with a time of 22.34 seconds, trailing only freshmen Jack Welch and Daniel Moore of the Merchant Marine Academy.

Arana had the Knights' third victory on the day as the junior bested her foes in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:01.82. The success of Arana translated well to the rest of the team, as Anna Lee pitched in with a good effort in her respective races. The junior was eighth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:28.00) but saved her best work for the breaststroke disciplines. Lee was runner-up in the 100-yard breast (1:13.88) and fourth in the 200-breast in a time of 2:41.50. Freshman Jennifer Chung also notched several fine performances, finishing seventh in the 50-free and 100-free in times of 26.89s and 58.46s respectively. First-year Gabriela Almeida grabbed a seventh-place finish in the 100-back (1:06.93) and an sixth-place time of 2:27.16 in the 200-yard backstroke. Senior Katie Waszkiewicz finished third in the 200-yard butterfly, hitting the wall in a time of 2:33.94. The Knights also took third-place finishes in the 400-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relays as well.

The Knights are back in action on Monday (Nov. 20) in a dual meet with Hunter College in Manhattan beginning at 6 p.m.
