A native of Tunis, Tunisia, Misso began his coaching career shortly after his arrival in New York in February of 1961. He began by coaching CYO soccer in 1962 before moving on to junior and senior teams, mostly in New York and on Long Island. These teams included the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League and the Super Y league for the Met-Oval/Brooklyn Knights. Joe has also participated in national and international tournaments.
In his days on the field, Misso played junior and senior semi-pro soccer in the old German American League and was a member of the 1965 Greek Americans who went on to win the US Open Challenge Cup.
