QC Men's Soccer Placed Fifth in East Coast Conference Preseason Poll

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (Aug. 23, 2018) – Coming off of the program's first winning season since 2013, the Queens College men's soccer team has been picked to finish fifth in the East Coast Conference preseason poll.

Second-year head coach Frank Vertullo has brought back many familiar faces in All-ECC honorees Andras Breuer and Emgi Gousse, along with senior defender Vincent Companion and last year's breakout scoring forward Pedro Lamarre. The team will also welcome several strong newcomers to Flushing including forward Romario Hulea, a San Jose State University transfer who also spent time with Vertullo as a national champion at Suffolk Community College.

The top spot in the ECC preseason poll was awarded to District of Columbia this year as the Firebirds earned six first-place mentions and 93 total points to oust LIU Post from the top spot. UDC was a surprise ECC finalist a year ago and ended the year one win away from the NCAA East Regional Final. LIU Post, on the other hand, will be looking to make waves under new head coach Michael Mordocco; the former Associate Head Coach at Massachusetts takes over for Andreas Lindberg, who left for a head coaching post at Division I Seton Hall University.

Mercy and NYIT finished nearly even on points (75-74) for third place with QC following behind by a wide swath. Bridgeport, Molloy, STAC, Daemen and Roberts Wesleyan round out the poll.

The Knights will kick off the 2018 fall campaign at home next Thursday (Aug. 30) as the squad hosts St. Michael's in Flushing at 5 p.m.
