FLUSHING, N.Y. – First-year Queens College head men's soccer coach Frank Vertullo announced the Knights' 2017 schedule on Tuesday. The 16-match slate will feature eight home contests and nine East Coast Conference (ECC) matches.
"I am very excited about the upcoming season," said Vertullo. "I am honored to lead such a great program. We have an energized and experienced group of student-athletes coming back, with a talented group of recruits coming in that are prepared to work towards our goals."
Queens will open its season on Friday, Sept. 1, on the road in Colchester, Vt., against Saint Michael's at 3 p.m. The following day, Sept. 2, the Knights will host their home opener against Holy Family at 1 p.m.
The Knights will then hit the road for three straight non-conference matchups at Bloomfield (Sept. 6), Saint Rose (Sept. 9) and Georgian Court (Sept. 12). Queens will begin ECC play with back-to-back home games beginning on Saturday, Sept. 16, when the Knights host Molloy at 3 p.m., followed by a home match against Bridgeport on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 3 p.m. The Knights will conclude the month of September with an ECC match at Mercy on Sept. 30.
To kick off the month of October, Queens will visit ECC foe St. Thomas Aquinas on Oct. 4. The Knights will then host consecutive home matches against defending ECC Champion LIU Post at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, and Concordia (N.Y.) for their Autism Awareness game on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 3:30 p.m.
Queens will follow with three straight conference matchups at Roberts Wesleyan (Oct. 14), home against Daemen (Oct. 18), and on the road at NYIT (Oct. 21). The Knights will cap off the regular season with two home contests against Saint Anselm on Wednesday, Oct. 25, and District of Columbia for Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 28.
The ECC Championship will begin with the semifinals on Oct. 31, while the finals will be played on Nov. 3.
