Goals from Stoker and Alesci give QC Homecoming Weekend victory

The Knights made first half goals from Danny Stoker and Frank Alesci stand up in their 2-1 victory over Dowling College on Homecoming Weekend in Flushing.

Stoker gave QC a 1-0 lead at the 1:58 mark in this pivotal East Coast Conference match-up.  Frank Alesci sent a feee kick from the right wing into the box and Stoker headed it home for his seventh of the season. Lamine Trarore of Dowling had a golden opportunity to tie the game in the 20th minute but his shot from in close sailed harmlessly over the crossbar.

Dowling gave QC a chance to expand their lead when one of their defenders pulled down Stoker in the penalty box. Alesci accepted the gift and converted on the penalty kick to put the Knights up, 2-0, at 39:51.

QC's two goal advantage lasted only 3:40 into the second half when Steven Schneider headed home a free kick from Harald Gundhus to pull Dowling within a goal. The visitors had three chances from in close in the 87th and 88th minutes to tie but Schneider missed wide and Stefan Draskovic shot wide once and was stopped by Knights goalie Julio Gaston Rodriguez on his second attempt.

With the victory the Knights improve to 9-5 overall and 3-2 versus conference opponents. Dowling drops to 9-4 and 3-1.
