C.W. Post edges Queens College, 1-0

Emanuel Messina's goal in the 58th minute was the difference as C.W. Post defeated Queens College, 1-0, in ECC action on Tuesday afternoon in Queens.

The Knights got the best of the chances in a scoreless first half, with two of those chances coming off of the foot of Frank Alesci. At 7:06 Alesci fired a shot from 20 yards out that barely sailed over the crossbar. In the 37th minute his aim was better from about the same distance but his shot was turned away by Pioneer goalkeeper Shane Flanagan.

Just over 12 minutes into the second half Messina outmuscled a QC defender for the ball along the right sideline before taking a shot from the end line that eluded Knights keeper Julio Gaston Rodriguez, giving Post a 1-0 lead. The Knights missed a golden opportunity to tie the game in the 84th minute when Mohammed Mashriqi hit the crossbar off of a scramble in the box. The rebound of Mashriqi's attempt went straight to Daniel Ospina but his shot sailed over a wide open net and the game ended with Post coming away with a 1-0 victory.
