FLUSHING, N.Y. (Feb. 24, 2018) – Senior guard Simon Green left it all out on the floor Saturday (Feb. 24) but the Queens College men's basketball team came up short by a 114-85 decision to Bridgeport at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.
QC (9-16, 7-11 ECC) led early on an Issac Grant jumper in the first minute of action but Bridgeport (24-4, 17-1 ECC) quickly went in front at the 16-minute mark of the half. A 7-0 run punctuated by a Sharif Cobb three-ball gave UB a 12-3 advantage that swelled to a 24-11 lead just a few minutes later. Bridgeport held a 35-20 lead after D'Vonne Trumbo scored on a lay-up with eight minutes remaining in the half; Simon Green would score the next five points in succession in the next minute to get the Knights back within ten points. QC closed the gap to single-digits towards the end of the half, but Bridgeport ended the frame with a 48-37 lead going into the halftime break. In the second half, the Purple Knights shot over 60% from both the floor and the three-point line in running away with the victory.
Green had a career-high 28 points in his final regular season game with six rebounds and two steals. Senior guard Tyrone Hall added ten points as well in his final contest as a Knight. Grant added 12 points and five rebounds while Bovell had 11 points. Jordan Curtis collected six points and 12 rebounds for QC in the loss.
Bridgeport was led by a spread offense---the hallmark for the Purple Knights this season---as Cobb and Bakary Camara had 14 points apiece. Trumbo collected 12 points and 11 assists while Marc Cambell and Sam Joseph each added 12 points and Yasir Lawrence chipped in 11 off the bench.
The Knights' defeat combined with a Molloy victory over Mercy on Saturday means that Queens has been eliminated from postseason contention. Check back with www.queensknights.com for further information about your Knights' basketball teams.
