WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – The Queens College men's basketball team was selected eighth in the East Coast Conference (ECC) Men's Basketball Preseason Poll, as announced by the league office this week. Queens gathered 38 points in the poll.
Defending NCAA East Regional and ECC Champion St. Thomas Aquinas claimed all 10 first-place votes for a total of 100 points. Bridgeport and Daemen were tied for second with 83 points, while LIU Post and District of Columbia rounded out the top five. Molloy and NYIT were ahead of Queens in sixth and seventh, respectively, and Roberts Wesleyan and Mercy made up the rest of the field.
Last season, the Knights put together their best record since the 2010-11 season with a 13-13 overall mark. Queens won eight road games, its highest total since 2010-11 as well. The Knights earned their most ECC wins (10) since 2012-13, while returning to the ECC Tournament after a two-year absence.
Head coach Matt Collier enters his second season at Queens with a new-look squad in 2017-18. After the departure of seven seniors from last season's team, Simon Green and Tyrone Hall return for their senior seasons. Green played in all 26 games, making seven starts for the Knights a season ago with 7.4 points per game, while Hall appeared in 24 games off the bench, averaging 6.7 points per game. In the frountcourt, Queens brings back sophomores Issac Grant and Kevin Buron.
The Knights will play an exhibition at UConn at Gampel Pavilion on Sunday, Nov. 5, and will open the regular season with seven consecutive home games, taking on Chestnut Hill on Friday, Nov. 10, in their home opener. Queens will begin ECC play at Molloy on Saturday, Dec. 9.
