FLUSHING, N.Y. – Second-year head coach Matt Collier announced the 2017-18 schedule for the Queens College men's basketball team on Wednesday. The slate features 25 games, including 16 home games at Fitzgerald Gymnasium and 18 East Coast Conference (ECC) contests, as well as an exhibition game against the University of Connecticut Huskies.
"The makeup of this year's schedule will present a significant challenge," Collier stated. "On the road against UConn in an exhibition game to prepare for our regular season, a long slate of home games in the non-conference and the always rigorous ECC play. We are excited to have 16 home games this year, so our fans have many opportunities to watch us compete."
First, the Knights will prepare for the regular season with an exhibition game at UConn on Sunday, Nov. 5, at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn. Queens will then start the regular season with seven straight non-conference home games. The Knights will host Chestnut Hill in their home opener on Friday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m.
The home stretch will continue with a Wednesday, Nov. 15, game against New Haven at 7 p.m. and a meeting with Concordia (N.Y.) on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 3:30 p.m. Queens will conclude the month of November with home contests with Felician (11/22), Holy Family (11/26) and Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day against Adelphi (11/29). The Knights will conclude their seven-game home stand against Lincoln (Pa.) on Sunday, Dec. 3.
Queens will face its first road test on Saturday, Dec. 9, when the Knights open ECC play at Molloy. The Knights will then host back-to-back conference home games against District of Columbia (12/30) and NYIT (1/3), as they dive deep into ECC competition. Queens will travel to LIU Post on Saturday, Jan. 6, and then will host Mercy on Wednesday, Jan. 10, before heading to Bridgeport for a Saturday matchup on Jan. 13.
Three consecutive home games will await the Knights, as they host Roberts Wesleyan (1/19), Daemen (1/21) and defending regional and conference champion St. Thomas Aquinas in the Coaches vs. Cancer game on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Queens will conclude the month of January with trips to District of Columbia on Saturday, Jan. 27, and St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
The Knights will start February off with a home meeting against Molloy on Saturday, Feb. 3. After traveling to NYIT on Wednesday, Feb. 7, Queens will host LIU Post on Saturday, Feb. 10. Queens will then hit the road for three games, taking on Roberts Wesleyan (2/16), Daemen (2/18) and Mercy (2/21). The Knights will conclude the regular season at home with Senior Day against Bridgeport on Saturday, Feb. 24.
The ECC Men's Basketball Championship will begin with first-round games on Wednesday, Feb. 28. The semifinals are slated for Saturday, March 3, and the title game will take place the following day, March 4. Both the semifinals and finals will be hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College.
"I believe the ECC will be very competitive this year, with not a lot of separation in the conference standings, so every game will be heavily contested," continued Collier. "We are looking forward to providing exciting and highly competitive basketball for our program and for our fans."
Last season, the Knights went 13-13 overall, their highest win total since 2010-11. Queens went 10-8 in conference play, making its first appearance in the ECC tournament since 2013-14.
