CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – Seniors Tyree White and Diego Maldonado of the Queens College men's basketball team were recognized with all-conference accolades from the East Coast Conference (ECC) on Friday. White landed first team honors, while Maldonado picked up third team laurels.
It is White's second all-conference nod after earning second team honors along with the ECC Defensive Player of the Year award last season. For Maldonado, it is his first all-conference selection.
White led Queens in scoring with 16.5 points per game this season and scored in double figures in all 26 games for the Knights. He is third in the ECC with 9.3 rebounds per game, and his 58.7 field goal percentage is good for fourth. White, who was named ECC Player of the Week on Nov. 21, also averaged 3.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game this season. He concluded his Queens career with 833 points and averaged 8.9 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game over his two seasons with the Knights.
Maldonado averaged a career-high 13.3 points per game this season for Queens. He was the Knights' top outside shooter during his senior campaign, shooting an efficient 43.8 percent from behind the arc, which was also a career best. The senior also led the team in free-throw percentage, converting on 85.4 percent of his attempts. Maldonado finished his four-year career with the Knights with a career total of 948 points.
This season, the Knights made their first ECC Tournament appearance since the 2013-14 campaign, falling to the University of Bridgeport, 85-74. Queens finished 13-13 overall, its best mark since the 2010-11 season, and the Knights' 10-8 ECC record was their best since the 2012-13 campaign.
