Men's Basketball Takes Seventh In ECC Preseason Poll

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. - The Queens College men's basketball team placed seventh in the 2016 East Coast Conference preseason poll, based upon a vote by the league's head coaches.  The Knights garnered 37 points in the poll, tying for seventh with Molloy.

St. Thomas Aquinas, reigning conference champions, took first in the poll.  The Spartans claimed nine of the ten first place votes.  LIU Post was the runner-up in the poll after receiving the final first place vote. The two through five spots of the poll were tightly contested with only seven points separating second and fifth. Bridgeport, District of Columbia, and Daemen, all ECC Championship participants a year ago, followed the Pioneers in the poll.

Under the direction of first year head coach Matt Collier, the Knights return seven players from last year's squad.  Chief among the returnees is senior Tyree White (Brooklyn, N.Y.), the reigning ECC Defensive Player of the Year.  White was an All-ECC and All-Met honoree a season ago, averaging 16.2 points per outing, as he started all 25 games for Queens.  The 16.2 ppg average ranked ninth in the league, while his 55.1% field goal percentage and 8.5 rebounds per game were both fourth in the ECC.  White led the conference with 6.1 assists per game, which ranked 11th best in the country.  White additionally led the league and the nation with 3.3 steals per outing.
