Knights clinch third by beating Molloy; Allicott named Co-Player of the Week
Queens College clinched third place with a 83-74 victory at Molloy College on Monday night. Lamonte Lans led the Knights with 20 points while Khaleef Allicott, who was named ECC Co-Player of the Week earlier in the day, added 18.
Allicott averaged 17.5 points and five rebounds per game in a 2-0 week to win the award. On Saturday at Mercy he became the ninth player to score 1500 career points in a Knights uniform.
Tonight, QC led by as much as 14 before taking a 48-38 lead at the break. Lans had 12 points in 14 minutes and Khalil McDonald added 10 in 11 minutes to spearhead the Knights first half attack.
Edward Freeman of Molloy cut the Knights lead to 54-48 with 13:44 left but QC outscored their hosts 11-4 over the next four and a half minutes to go up 65-52 on a Lans bucket. The Knights converted on eight of ten free throw attempts - Allicott accounted for five of six - over the last 1:08 to hold off Molloy and pick up the victory.
Akim Neverson had 15, McDonald finished with 13 and Anderson Labase added nine points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals for Queens College, who improved to 9-3 in their road blue uniforms with the win.
After closing out the regular season with home games against Bridgeport and C.W. Post, QC will host either Dowling College or St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday, March 3rd in the opening round of the East Coast Conference playoffs.
