Allen's Free Throws help STAC nip QC, 63-62

Ahmed Allen made two free throws with 10.9 seconds remaining in the game to give St. Thomas Aquinas the lead for good in a 63-62 win over the Knights on Saturday night in Fitzgerald Gym. Lamont Lans led Queens College with 17 points.

Terrell Simmons' basket with 9:20 left in the game capped an 11-0 run that put QC ahead 45-35. STAC climbed back into the game, taking a 52-51 lead on a Jelani Winfield three pointer with 3:27 showing on the scoreboard clock.

Their advantage would grow to four on a Chad Williams' steal and lay up with a minute left but the Knights battled back to tie the score on another Simmons' bucket with 15.1 remaining. The inbounds pass by STAC went up the court to Allen, who was fouled in the lane. After Allen made both of his free throws, QC's Khaleef Allicott was sent to the line but could only convert on the first of two free throws with 2.7 seconds left. Mike Liander got the rebound of the second but missed an over-the-shoulder fling at the buzzer.

Liander and Allicott joined Lans in double figures for the Knights with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Chris Williams led STAC with 17 points.
