Tenth Ranked C.W. Post spoils the Knights home opener, 96-79

Tenth ranked C.W. Post College beat the Knights, 96-79, in Flushing on Wednesday night in QC's 2008-2009 home opener. Khaleef Allicott and Lawrence Young led the Knights offense with 17 and 16 points, respectively.

C.W. Post took command early by scoring the first 15 points of the contest. Trailing 31-7  10:30 into the half, the Knights ran off 11 consecutive points, capped by a drive to the hoop by Nana Boateng, to pull within 13. They got even closer with 1:38 left in the first half when another basket by Boateng made the score Post 34, Queens College 24. Post responded by closing the half on an 8-2 run to take a 16 point lead into the break.

The Knights dug an even bigger hole in the second half, surrendering the first seven points on their way to a 84-60 deficit.  However, QC didn't give in and when Lamont Lans converted on an and one, they got as close as 86-73 with just under four minutes remaining in the game.

Jonathan Schmidt led the Post attack with 23 while Kenny Burkes added 22 and Nicholas Carter had 21 as they improved to 3-0 and 1-0 in ECC play. Besides Allicott and Young, Boateng (13) and Simmons (10) also scored in double digits for QC.
