Knights fall to AU in ECC Quarterfinals, 57-49

Queens College was beaten by Adelphi, 57-49, in Garden City on Wednesday night in one of four East Coast Conference Quarterfinal games. The loss ends the Knights 2008-09 season.
Khaleef Allicott led the Knights with 16 points and seven rebounds while Mike Liander closed out his collegiate career with 14 points and nine rebounds.
QC fell behind early, trailing 9-0 after 6:43 and 22-6 with 7:48 remaining in the first stanza. The half ended with the Knights trailing 30-17 after hitting on just four of 20 from the field.
After Adelphi scored the opening basket of half number two, Allicott led a 13-2 run with seven points to enable the Knights to close to 34-30 with 15:18 left. Adelphi responded by outscoring QC 12-4 over the next six minutes to restore their double digit edge.
Allicott got the Knights back to within five points (48-43) with 2:55 remaining but that would be as close as they would get as Adelphi used a basket and three free throws to go back ahead by 10 points with only 48 seconds left on the game clock.
