Knights fade late in 73-61 loss to Dowling

Dowling College used a 17-4 run late in the second half to defeat Queens College, 73-61, on Wednesday night in Flushing, New York. Lamont Lans led the Knights with 16 points as he faced off against his brother Leonard, a senior at Dowling.
The two combatants combined to shoot 16 for 53 from the field and turn the ball over 19 times in a less than artistic first half. Lans had seven for QC while Josh Lowe's eight points helped Dowling take a 23-19 lead at the break.
John Mechant's basket with 9:31 remaining in the contest put Dowling ahead by eight, 45-37. Three pointers by Martin Singleton and Edil Lacayo and two free throws from Terrell Simmons enabled the Knights to knot the game at 45 just a minute and nine seconds later. QC's Khaleef Allicott was then called for an intentional foul and Dowling went on the outscore the Knights 17-4 to open up a commanding 62-49 lead on their way to a 12 point victory.
Allicott finished with 10 points and 10 boards for Queens College while David Seagers of Dowling led all scorers with 24 points.
