Battaglia spent eight years (2002 - 2008) at the helm of the
Knights baseball team and twelve as a member of the QC staff.
Battaglia joined the staff following a successful playing career,
which included stints at Queensborough Community College, Queens
College, and in the Northern and Atlantic leagues. After taking
over as one of the youngest head coaches in the nation, Battaglia
has rebuilt the program and is attempting to lead the young Knights
to the level of success that he enjoyed as a player.
A speedy second baseman, Battaglia played his prep ball at
Archbishop Molloy High School, under the legendary Jack Curran. He
then started in an NJCAA World Series and Regionals in his two
years at Queensborough Community College in '94 & '95. After
transferring to QC, Battaglia was named to the All-State team as a
junior, ranking 17th in the nation in stolen bases. As a senior
co-captain, he led the Knights to their first ever NYCAC regular
season championship. Battaglia signed a pro contract with
Adirondack Lumber Jacks of the Northern League in '98, before being
released from the Atlantic League on the last day of spring
training in '99.
A true product of the CUNY system, Battaglia holds a B.A. in
Communications from Queens College. He is married and resides in
Franklin Square, NY with his wife Kristen, also a Queens College
second baseman. Together they have a daughter named Kaitlin.
