WALTHAM, Mass. (Mar. 11, 2018) - Junior Sabrina Decopain of the Queens College fencing team advanced to the second round before being eliminated in the women's foil competition at the NCAA Northeast Regionals for fencing at Brandeis University on Sunday (Mar. 11).
Decopain advanced out of her first round-robin group, winning three of four matches in her pool. After a 5-4 loss to Wellesley's Taylor Hood, the QC junior defeated Rachel Yuen of NYU (5-4) and Brandeis' Renee Pite by a 5-4 score as well. Decopain then took down CCNY's Nemesys Perez by a 5-1 score to advance to the next round. She was tied for 29th after the first round but only won one match in Round 2, defeating Natalie Yang of Harvard by a 5-2 score-line. Decopain ended the regional with a 28th-place finish, the highest finish among all QC Knights at the regional event.
Three other Knights took part in the first round of the regional; Alison Shum was a competitor in foil as well but did not come out victorious in any of her four match-ups. Fatima Maryam picked up a 5-4 win over Taiylor Nunn of MIT in women's epee and Sophia Lettieri was unable to pick up a win in saber.
