FLUSHING, N.Y. (Feb. 11, 2018) - The Queens College fencing team held a successful home meet on Sunday (Feb. 11) in defeating regional foes Yeshiva, CCNY and LIU Post at Fitzgerald Gymnasium at the Queens College Home Invitational.
The Knights utilized strong performances in foil from Sabrina Decopain and Nicole Michaels to help bolster the team's chances to victory. Decopain was a perfect 9-0 in bouts over the course of the day while Michaels was nearly perfect in scoring an 8-1 mark in foil. Sophia Lettieri had herself a day in the sabre discipline as well, winning all nine of her bouts on the afternoon. QC utilized strong performances to defeat all three opponents, including taking a strong 12-10 victory over LIU Post in the final match-up of the invitational.
"The whole team did an excellent job rising to the occasion and defending their turf," stated Head Coach Greg Rupp after the meet. "I look forward to the members of the team testing themselves in this last leg of the season."
Queens will take to the road for its next meet as the Knights are scheduled to compete at the Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational Tournament on Feb. 25 in New Jersey.
