Women’s Fencing Places 13th at NIWFA Championships

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Queens College women's fencing team competed at the National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association (NIWFA) Championships this weekend, finishing in 13th place overall.

The Knights placed 13th out of 17 teams in the overall standings. Temple University won the team title for the 21st year in a row.

Queens' best finish came in the foil, as the Knights finished ninth in the weapon. The Knights placed 13th in the epee and 15th in sabre.

"Everybody on the team gained crucial experience and responded strongly and progressively," said head coach Greg Rupp. "This tournament served as an excellent warmup for next week's NCAA Regionals."

Four Knights qualified for NCAA Regionals in Nicole Michaels (Foil), Sabrina Decopain (Foil), Angela Acevedo (Epee) and Fatima Maryam (Epee).

The NCAA Northeast Regional will take place on Sunday, March 12, at Yale University in New Haven, Conn.
