Queens College Dance Team places 13th in the Country

In January of 2010, the Queens College Dance Team set out for Orlando, Florida to compete for the fourth straight year.  With the team consisting of both freshman and original senior members, stability became something of a concern for the team’s coaches.  Coach Shawn K. Garnier, the original coach, choreographer and founder of the team, and assistant coach Alana Cermeli, former team captain, were both unsure if this new group would be able to form a cohesive precision dance unit.  However, before these worries could even sink in, the team connected on a deeper level than they expected. The team was able to connect so well emotionally that they were quickly able to feel and understand each other’s presence and movements.  At the National College Dance Team and Cheerleading Competition the team achieved a goal that they never thought possible.  Dancing to Linkin Park the team advanced to the finals.  During the finals the team came in 13th place out of 48 elite teams.  This thrust the Queens College Dance Team into the national spotlight.  This outstanding performance became possible because of the team’s technical skill, the phenomenal choreography, and their endurance to persevere through discouragement and difficulty.  The Queens College Dance Team is now a nationally ranked college team.
