Baseball Drops Home Opener to Southern Connecticut, 9-1

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Mar. 6, 2018) - The Queens College baseball team mustered just one run on offense against regionally-ranked Southern Connecticut on Tuesday (Mar. 6) as the Knights fell to their opponents by a 9-1 score at Hennekens Stadium.

The lone run for Queens (1-4) came in the second inning as Anthony Scotti tapped an infield single to shortstop with the bases loaded to score Ronmel Ocampo with the game's first run. That was the only run scored against Southern Connecticut's (6-2) Brendan Ebert, who scattered seven hits over seven innings with five strikeouts. The Owls, who were ranked No. 8 in the NCBWA East Regional poll on Monday, scored two runs in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings against QC starter Dylan Hughes---who took the loss and falls to 0-2 on the season. Hughes went five-plus innings and struck out three batters despite allowing the six runs on seven hits.

Kevin Kolesar continued his impressive start to the season, hitting 3-for-4 to lead the Knights while Scotti collected two hits in the lead-off spot. Ocampo, Louis Antos and Ron Linsalato had the other hits for Queens.

The Knights will now head to West Virginia this weekend for a three-game set against the Rams of Shepherd University. Queens will open the road-trip on Friday (Mar. 9) with a 2 p.m. first pitch.
