CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – Senior Joseph Broderick of the Queens College baseball team was recognized with all-conference honors from the East Coast Conference (ECC) on Wednesday, earning a spot on the All-ECC First Team as a starting pitcher.
It is Broderick's second consecutive all-conference selection, garnering second team accolades last season. He was named ECC Pitcher of the Week on April 3 after giving up just two hits over eight scoreless innings with eight strikeouts in a 5-0 road win over ECC Regular Season Champion St. Thomas Aquinas College.
Broderick finished the season fifth in program history with 73 strikeouts on the year, which ranks second in the ECC. He is tied for the conference lead with four complete games and stands fifth in the league with 67.1 innings pitched. Broderick also sits in sixth in the ECC with five wins, posting a 5-5 mark on the mound this season. He made 11 appearances, including 10 starts, and put forth a 4.28 ERA.
The right-hander recorded seven or more strikeouts in seven of his 10 starts and averaged 9.76 strikeouts per nine innings. Broderick registered a career-high 13 strikeouts in a 4-1 win at Pace University on March 21, giving up just three hits and one run in a seven-inning complete game effort. He piled up 11 strikeouts at Felician on March 26 and fanned 11 again at LIU Post on April 13, while tossing a one-run complete game in a 2-1 win at St. Thomas Aquinas on April 26.
Broderick finishes his career with 197 strikeouts over 221.2 innings of work. In his four seasons with the Knights, Broderick won 11 games, recorded seven complete games and made one save, while owning a 3.86 ERA in 40 appearances, including 33 starts.
