CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – For the second week in a row, freshman Nick Morena of the Queens College baseball team has been honored by the East Coast Conference (ECC), earning ECC Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Morena tossed a shutout in the Knights' 4-0 win over Goldey-Beacom College on Sunday. He pitched a complete game, striking out seven and allowing just three hits over the seven-inning victory.
Morena (2-0) has yet to give up a run over the first 14 innings of his young career. Last week, he was named ECC Rookie of the Week after striking out 12 over seven scoreless innings.
Junior Karl Klesin was also recognized, landing on the weekly honor roll. Klesin hit .500 with a .615 on-base percentage and .700 slugging percentage over the Knights' three-game series sweep of Goldey-Beacom this weekend. He also scored four runs, drove in a pair, walked twice, had two doubles and stole a base.
The Knights have won four games in a row after sweeping the Lightning over the weekend. Queens will be back in action on Saturday, March 11, for a doubleheader against Philadelphia University starting at noon.
