QC drops pitcher's duel to STAC, 3-1

Matt Matkovich outdueled QC's Brian Friedman to give St. Thomas Aquinas College a 3-1 win in an East Coast Conference game played in Flushing on Saturday afternoon.

Each pitcher hurled nine innings for their respective clubs. Friedman, who had a 10 inning shutout victory over C.W. Post last Monday, scattered nine hits and struck out four while yielding three runs - two earned - in being saddled with the hard luck loss. The Knights could only muster five singles, a double and one earned run against Matkovich.

The Knights drew first blood in their half of the fourth when Noel Gerena, Jr. doubled home David Fisher to give QC a 1-0 lead. STAC then came up in the fifth and scored three runs off Friedman, who had taken an eighteen inning scoreless streak into the inning.  Matt Smith and Dan McDermott each had an RBI in the frame for STAC.
