Knights gain split on Marte's six hitter

The Knights rallied for three runs in the eighth and William Marte picthed a complete game six hitter to beat Dowling College, 4-1, in game two of a conference double dip in Brookhaven, New York on a blustery Saturday afternoon. Dowling won game one, 12-0.

QC trailed 1-0 in the nightcap until Jared Stoler singled in Wei Chang in the fifth inning with the tying run. The game remained deadlocked until the eighth when Luis Rojas drew a walk with the bases loaded, forcing in Tom Mercantante with the go ahead run. Centerfielder Jason Espinal followed with a double down the left field line that drove in Anielo Napolitano and Matthew Ortiz to give the Knights a 4-1 lead. Marte then pitched a one-two-three inning to close out the game.

Three Dowling pitchers limited QC to just four hits in the first game of the day. Timothy Francis was touched for seven hits and four earned runs in five innings of work and was saddled with the loss.
