FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) successfully hosted Relay for Life in Fitzgerald Gym last month, giving back to the community and supporting the fight against cancer.
Members of SAAC teamed up to raise over $3,000 for the American Cancer Society. Multiple survivors and caregivers were in attendance. All of the Knights' sports teams participated in the event, which even included a dodgeball tournament.
"This year's Relay for Life at Queens College was great," explained women's soccer student-athlete Erin Vernillo, SAAC President and organizer of the event. "Many thanks to our Survivors and Caregivers who attended, to our student-athletes and athletics staff, to the Student Association who donated $800, our volunteers from SEEK, and finally our American Cancer Society representative, Meagan Halworth!
"I want to especially thank my committee members from SAAC who have been planning, fundraising and marketing for this wonderful event since November," continued Vernillo. "From the opening ceremony, to the finals of the dodgeball tournament, the entire day was fun-filled and memorable for everyone who could be a part of it. QC SAAC's Relay for Life 2017 is one we will never forget!"
